Wheeler or Lyman?
Hello all, these seem to be the most commonly available trigger gauges
( electronic) . They both seem to hover near 60 dollars. I am hoping for a more accurate and sensitive gauge than I currently have, which is a spring Wheeler. This I feel is more representative, than precise. Of these two, does one stand out as better, assuming both are same price? Is there a gauge I should consider which is not listed above? It is mostly used for my 1911's tuning. Thank you Rich |

I can't compare the two, I had a Lyman which did well.
I have replaced it with a spring gauge which is good enough for my application. |

I've always had doubts about the quality of "Wheeler" products. Maybe LYMAN isn't any better(they used to be) but I have more confidence in Lyman.

Maybe you're ready for a Trigger Scan? If you'll ante up for one, the rest of us would be pleased to let you lend it to us from time to time.

Thanks uncle Nick!!! I will look at that, and if it isn't outside of my reach, I may bite. Then yes, lend ( after I find all my numbers).
I never was a trigger snob, that is until I got my model 41, and could not believe how drastically my accuracy improved. I have many other pistols, including several 1911's ( which no one will argue the trigger feel) but the feel and poundage of the Smith beats all. I have a Ruger, which is lightly breathed on, and it has the same pounds of trigger as the Smith, ( I did not fully adjust the trigger stops yet) but even it does not get close to the Smith. I also want to carefully measure the pounds, as my current Wheeler gauge works, and appears accurate to a degree, but to me, it is more representative than exact. Thank you for the input, and yes, I am also viewing most of Wheeler as cheaper tools. Certainly not top line stuff. Thank you Rich |

Ooooh Uncle Nick, that is awesome!!!! However, this trigger scan system is outside of my reach.
I love tools, and will usually buy equipment, even if it is only to be used a few times ( as tools have a way of working for multiple applications if you think outside the box) but this is a bit more than what I need or am willing to pay for. Thanks for the link anyway!!! Rich |
