Looking for an AR

I am new to looking at any AR so any help would be appreciated. I am looking for an AR for coyote hunting max yard probably 300 yards. Looking for a 223.

Is there a brand that stands out from the rest?
What would be a good scope to put on?
Any additions that I should look for to building one?
What grain should I shoot?
Any other suggestions would be helpful.

You probably won't find one for anything close to a reasonable price right now. So I would wait until this all blows over, if it ever does.

Probably not a great time to buy one. I'd look for a bolt action like Rem 700, Tikka T3, or Savage. AR15 prices have skyrocketed and sellers are asking for a ridiculous price. However if you are dead set on one, I'd look at Rock River Arms or S&W.

The same S&W M&P OR AR's that I bought 2 years ago for $550 are now going for anywhere between $1500 and $3500!

The lower price is more reasonable but, IMO still high.

There is just to much panic buying going on to recommend buying a AR right now.

You need a time machine. Go back a couple months and they will be plentiful and cheap.

Seeing how it's hard to point you to a gun shop or site that has any in stock that's a tough question?

You can check sites like AR15.com's Equipment Exchange where you can find new and used AR's for sale with some good buys still to be found by some sellers not capitalizing on the currant climate.

Bravo Company, LMT, Spikes, Colt, Rock River, S&W and a number of others all make good to great AR's.

My best suggestion is to check your cash supply, then check gunbroker.com. You will be in a bidding war. IF you are budget restricted, then I suggest the S&W M&P 15 Sport. Expect to pay around $1500 or more. (If your time machine is working go back about 3 weeks and you might be able to find one for $649.95 like I found for my buddy). IF you aren't budget restricted, then grab yourself a Colt H-Bar or whatever you want, since the sky is the limit. Expect to pay upwards of $2000 + depending on which model you desire and how many people with deep pockets are bidding against you.

Remington makes one specifically for hunting. It has a longer, heavier barrel and such.

Overall, I'd look for something with a longer heavy weight barrel and some form of non-stock trigger. The stock trigger on the AR is not, by any means, target ready. Many companies make drop-in triggers for the AR that greatly improve trigger pull.

Nikon makes some BDC scopes specifically for the .223 round.

It is going to be tough finding anything out there. Kind of like going to a Home Depot right before a Hurricane and expecting to find a generator, batteries or plywood.

Another alternative is the Remington 7615. My understanding is that it can use AR magazines.

A 16" carbine will be at it's max at 300 yards. The shorter barrel limits velocity which limits range and killing effect of the bullets. I'll carry a 16" Hbar carbine from now until April almost all the time I'm outside. Coyotes are my target at this time of year. The 16" is handy to carry across the chest while doing chores or riding an ATV.
If I'm calling an area that has shots expected to be 250+ yards, I'll either switch to a bolt 22/250 or at least a 20" barrel AR.
I agree that you've waited too long to get on the AR train at a decent price. Even I'm looking at selling some AR's to take advantage of the high prices.

how long you have you been in need of a 'coyote killer' ? Sounds to me like you are caught up in the panic. You need to listen to DubCHicks and Xfire68.
If you choose to buy now....well, good luck. You are going to need it.
Just know one thing, the 'extra' AR-15's on the market are mostly 'bottom of the barrel' items that could be of questionable standard.
