Target that will hold up to 223 and 308?

I am looking for a target that will hold up to 223 and 308. Maybe a resetting target, spinner or ........? Any suggestions?

http://www.lvsteeltargets.com/

We use a lot of their spring loaded targets in our monthly precision rifle matches.
We shoot them with everything from 223 to 300 mag without issues.

I order from www.shootsteel.com . Great prices and they have AR500 steel in 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" thickness.

The 3/8" steel can handle .223 and .308 just fine, and the 1/2" can handle just about any round short of .50cal.

The way I mount mine is I built basically a wood frame/window and screwed in eye hooks to hang the chains and steel plate from. It swings with each shot so there is no worries about ricochet's, it directs all the bullets down into the ground. You can actually see all the pancaked bullets and fragments all around the target on the ground when you are done shooting.

Can they handle M855? At what range?

Not sure, although not sure why anyone would use M855's for target practice either, you gain absolutely nothing.

For the 1/2" thick AR500 targets they say

The 1/2” AR500 steel targets work great for 7mm Mag, 30-06, 300 Mag, 338 Mag, 45-70, and most African dangerous game calibers.

Because it was cheap at one point in time, and I have lots of it.

Also, new .223/5.56mm ammo is non-existent here, and you can't shoot ammo you don't have.

Fair enough, but I would not risk it. Chances are it wont penetrate the steel, but it may leave pock marks or dimples which can cause ricochets.

In an oblique followup to the question about M855 bullets, would old E. Bloc steel core 7.62x54r be harmful to the AR 500 targets?

Thanks for the link kraigwy!

Ordered three 8" gongs from that store. We've got a ton of chain and other scrap hardware at the office; should be able to make some nice take-down stands for the field.
