RL#7 is the goto for 45/70
Roy
RL #7 is great in a 45/70. Much better than Varget IMO. I get very little unburned powder and its very consistent. It works well with all bullet weights I have tried both cast and Jacketed from 300-465gr. Varget does a lot of things good but nothing great. RL#7 is also very good in 30-30. I like RL 22 in 300wm and RL 15 in 308/3006. Reloader powders meters well and are consistent. Its like AA powder in pistols. It does not get much press but its good.

I recently picked up some Reloader 7 to use for .45-70 cartridges. I noticed it says "Made in Sweden for Alliant." I see that it is a cylindrical powder that looks exactly like VihtaVuori N-110 (a Finnish powder). I'm wondering if there's some connection, like they're made in the same plant or by the same company.

I have used RL-15 for .223 Rem and .308 Win.
Extremely accurate loads for AR-15 service rifle. I use it in .308 Win rounds for my bolt guns. I did not get as good results as IMR-4895 in my M1's and M1A's. |

Ive used RL-7 in 7.62x39 & RL-15 in .308 both perfomed great, giving me tight groups. Looking forward to trying RL-15 in the 8x57js with the 150 & 170 Grn bullets |

I've used RL-10x for .223 with good results. I wish I could get some RL-15 for heavier bullet .223 loads. I hear Varget is good too. Similar to RL-15. If I could get either I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I have just loaded up a few 6.5x55 Swede cartridges with RL-19. When the weather clears I will be able to test them out. I'll know more then.
It should run well in the 6.5x55 according to the available data.

RL
I use RL15 in my HBar with Sierra 77s. It works quite well....well enough that I have been able to ignore the little voice that tells me to try Varget. I "stole" the load from Derrick Martin of Accuracy Speaks ( it was mentioned in Zediker's book about the AR15)
RL7 is the smokeless powder rgat was first recommended to me for the 45-70. It was good in that cartridge, though I also like 4198. I use RL7 also in the 50-70 case. Pete
