Puma 92 feed problems

I purchased a Puma M92 carbine yesterday in .44mag. For some reason the first round out of the tube will cycle fine, but the ones after that have to be pushed in pretty hard, and the only way that it will feed relatively well is if the barrel is pointed down.

Very common with 92s (and clones) chambered for straight-wall cartridges. There are a few smiths that specialize in fixing feed issues with Puma and Uberti 92s so chambered.

FYI, even original 1892 Winchesters cheambered for straight-walled cartridges have the same issues. The Winchester 1892 was not designed to feed them and was never offered in a straight-wall chambering from the factory.

conveniently enough I've found Steve's gunz who apparently specializes in the Rossi 92, and he is located the next town over from me.

I have been reading gun forums every day for 15 years.
We have all seen lots of Ford vs Chevy repetitive threads that have more to do with human nature.

But I am alarmed at how many 92 Puma feed problem threads I have seen over the years.

I brought it to the range yesterday and it cycled pretty well, i only had 1-2 of the rounds not feed smoothly out of about 25 which was better than trying to cycle through the whole rounds. I think part of the problem is that the springs are pretty much new in it, I bought it used, but if you looked at it, it looked new, I think it was a case of too much recoil for someone and they traded it in. Once I had started cycling rounds through it, it started feeding a a bit more consistently, of course now i need to see if i can get the extractor smoothed out because its jacking up my brass.

My rossi in .357 does not like .38 spl wad cutters, or hollow points, but it will feed round nose fine.

Feeds every .357 I have tried, so it may be a function of the shape or length of the rounds you have.

When I brought it home all I had were .38s and i was really upset, but after playing with round nose and .357 i love the gun.

It does not like Blazer ALUMINUM rounds, they will hang up in Magazine tube..so be wary of that, too.

Hope you get it straightened out.

I own 2 Rossi M92 Pumas. My .44 mag Puma has been flawless through several hundred rounds, but my .357 Mag Puma had to be sent back for feeding issues. I have now waited 2 months and according to their customer service web site, they have not even looked at it yet.

Both of my Pumas are exceedingly accurate, I just wish that I had both of them to take to the range.
