Match King Bullets for Hunting?

Hello TFL Members:
I'M new at reloading and would like to know if anyone has used match king bullets for hunting and with what results. any help apprecaited

I have used the .224 69 grain BTHP in .223 Rem on varmints. They worked just fine. I would not use any on deer or the likes.

There are various companies that make "hollow point" bullets For hunting, but I dont think the "Match King" bullet was designed for hunting anything but targets.

I deer hunt with match kings out of my .300Win mag. They work wonderful. Having said that, it would be hard for a bullet that heavy to not work wonderful on a whitetail deer. I am not brave enough to shoot a whitetail with a 6mm match king though.

Had a buddy try 150 gr Sierra Matchkings out of his 30-06 for deer. Although he did take 3 deer with them, he was lucky they didn't go far because there was absolutely no blood trail. I just don't get the feeling that they are made for expansion.

Folks have been using Sierra's HPMK's since they came out in 1958. They often blow up too soon on impact depending on their striking velocity and tissue characteristics. Sierra's put in print not to use HPMK's for hunting. People do what they want.

I have shot a few hogs with them with my .308, but those were neck shots so bullet construction didn't matter too much.

However, I would not use them on deer or pigs if I am not taking a neck shot; just don't trust them that much.

I know a couple of farm boys who use them in .308 for deer and everything else. While the SMK is not a hunting bullet, they kill 3-4 a year with them and have no complaints.
