Safari Express Stock on Standard Winchester Model 70
Quick question that nobody (including the Winchester tech I talked to) seems to have an answer for.
Can I replace my standard Winchester Model 70 stock (270 Win) with a stock taken off of a Winchester Model 70 Express Safari rifle (416 Rem)? Anybody have a clear answer on this? Thanks.

Same action, but the barrel may not fit exactly as you want. So yes, it will fit.

Scorch, any idea what kind of gap we're looking at between the barrel and stock?

Should be close to the same at the breech end, but the profile may be different. You may have to inlet a bit, maybe not.

Scorch is correct. I would make sure that I could at least slide a playing or business card between the barrel and forearm, to within an inch or two of the receiver.
