Buttstock for DPMS LR-308?
I have an old DPMS LR-308 with about 200 rounds through it. I need to start shooting it. Can anyone recommend a good buttstock? I have the OEM stock on it now. It would be nice to get something that assures a good cheek weld and so on.
It would be for shooting from a rest or bipod.

I have the Magpul Fixed Rifle stock on 2 AR-10s and like it a lot. The Magpul UBR Gen II works very well also.

I run an ACE Skeleton stock on my LR-260,and several other AR-15's. I've always liked those stocks, and also have a couple LuthAR stocks on a couple that are adjustable in length and cheek weld height.

I see Magpul makes a stock, but it's $240, which seems like a lot for a couple of pieces of plastic.

The Magpul fixed rifle stock is only $65 and also has a good cheek weld if you use the proper height rings. You don't need an adjustable cheek piece, they get in the way of the charging handle and get caught on things. I tried a Luth AR stock and broke the adjustable cheek piece while installing it. This is a case of less is better, or the simpler the better.

My gorilla hands broke the, too delicate, plastic part.

FWIW... I have a few Magpul PRS Gen II and Gen III stocks... they are quite good, but, they are HEAVY.
They are great at the bench, handling wise. And to be honest I have only slightly elevated the cheek piece. Ultimately, I probably could have made the elevation adjustments up with an adhesive backed cheek pad. I would think, allowing enough room for the extended charging handle clearance, someone could adapt / cut it to fit a USGI stock. Provided the scope rings were low enough. https://www.convergentdesignsolution...heek_Pads.html |
