Just a correction here...

the foorums indicates that new barrel wouldn't interchange, is partially correct they have to be fitted for use on old receivers.

The old barrels MUST be fitted and headspace check as Ithaca knew that a bad headspace was possible. Somewhere I have an old ad that states this.

So any mis-matched barrel / receiver (not the same SN) must be check and corrected by a gunsmith.

I acquired a second 16ga barrel for my 1953 era, the smith which was a displaced Ithaca employee, refitted, reblued and re-SN'd the barrel to indicate it was matched to the receiver.
