Go for .17-223 or .17 Remington.

I suspect nothing says "good morning" quite like tickling a prairie dog with multiple 4,000 fps projectile from an AR.

(Substitute 'prairie dog' with neighborhood cats, asian carp, turtles, Eurasian collared doves, or whatever other local vermin is a problem, if you are not rodentially plagued.)
