taurus 608 .357 mag

First off, NO taurus bashing please. Im looking for experiences from people that have or had this gun. If you never owned this gun, or never shot one extensively, please do not post.

My dad is looking at getting his first revolver. He seems to like the taurus 608 6.5 inch in .357 mag. Looking for personal experiences with this gun, good or bad.

Also, we never shoot at an indoor range, so the barrel porting is irrelevant

It's one of the only Taurus's I don't bash (look at one of my OPs) because that was my first revolver in 4" which I recommend because of the balance and accuracy. around 3000 rounds of mostly .357 full power factory rounds, and its still running fine, just not in my hands, I sold it to my brothers. It's now a family gun out of state.

It rather impressed everybody that shot it. I bought a lighter hammer spring but never installed it, the trigger was that nice.

I hated the stock grips, I put Hogue rubber on it. The ports do tame it a bit.

I'm now an owner of a S&W M627 V-comp, and M327 R8 M&P 8 shot .357s. a cut above for 3 times the money.

I have had one for 5 years. It was my first revolver and still my favorite. I have shoot countless numbers of 38 special +p to full house 357 mags out of it. I have the stainless 4in with the ported barrel that tames the full house rounds to the point my small stature wife likes to shoot it. I would highly recommend it.

They are a fine gun....I would put Taurus on par with NEW production S&W...IMHO they don't hold a candle to OLD S&W or Colts....But for shooting and on a budget? They are perfectly fine....I would buy one over a charter arms even. Fit and finish is superior. I have a model 85 that puts them in the same hole at 7 yards.....Plus they have a LIFETIME warranty......try that with a Colt.

Buy it....Shoot it...Repeat.

I have one with the long barrel, 8 3/8" with the ported chamber at the end.

It's very, very accurate, and I like the fact that it's based on a 44 mag frame but chambered with 8 .357s. The recoil is minimal and it's got a good trigger.

No, it's no Ruger but I like it a lot.

I bought a Taurus 608 with a ported 4" barrel about five years ago. I found the revolver to be reliable and accurate. It's size, weight & porting make it easy to shoot, even with hot .357 magnum loads. It's a great house or vehicle gun. My son has it now and loves it. It's also intimidating as hell to look at.

I like the idea of keeping a revolver at the ready for home defense. There are no springs under tension and no magazines to rotate. I have Colt King Cobra for that purpose now but always felt that the 8 shots of the Taurus 608 was a reasonably priced and formidable home defense gun. This would be especially true if you live in a state which limits magazine capacity to only 10 rounds.

The Taurus 608 is not a Smith & Wesson, but it works well and cost about half as much. It's a terrific "night stand" gun.

An excellent gun. I had one years ago, and sold it off to purchase a lever gun in .357.

A large revolver, and a good shooter. I could have done without the porting, but that was something of a Taurus standard feature for a while there.

Based on my experience I can recommend one without hesitation.

I can't say anything bad about any of the Taurus Revolvers that I had or still have. 608, 627, 617, 66, 650, 605, 905,92, and 2 85s. You can have problems with all makes of guns. I have worked in Gun Shops for almost 20 years. I have sent all makes in for repairs.
