model 93 marlin

I was given a marlin model 93 30-30 with serial number 50X. It says simply 30-30 on the barrel (not 30-30 win) and says something about the sight being pattented January 1901. It also says <special smokelss steel> on the barrel. The barrel is round. Anyone know when it was made and what it might be worth?

The 1893 Marlin changed it's tang marking starting in 1905 to Model'93 so that leaves me to believe it's not older than 1905. To say anymore would require a more complete description of the rifle in question. There is a several page section on the '93 in Marlin Firearms; A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them by William S Brophy. An excellent book BTW.
