Some else suggested a surplus Star BM9.

This is a REALLY good idea. These things are rock solid and a VERY good price at this time.

Have you considered a SW Shield in .45? I'm a 1911 guy, but haven't had much luck with Officer size 1911s being very reliable, my last one being a SW Sub-Compact. Only exception has been my SA EMP, that's in 9mm.
