Blued AR mags?
Hey everyone. I was at a Dunhams Sporting Goods today and picked up a blued steel 20rnd pro mag for my AR. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm worried about rust issues with a blued finish but at the same time it's not like your traditional bluing it's hard to explain but to me it seems not like your average bluing on your hunting rifle. If you have one, what's your experience with it?

they call them "blue steel" but they are a black oxide finish. I dont own any, so I cant say how they stand up to use though.

I"m not sure if it applies, it depends on the coating, however I have several blued mags for my Mini-14 that I've had since the late 1990's, and they aren't rusted. They have been taken care of, but not meticulously so.. I've simply kept them clean and in a somewhat dry place, they've just been in a cabinet.
On the flip side, the same kind of magazine that was in my grandpa's basement in a drawer for about the same amount of time is showing rust. If you put any effort at all into keeping it clean, it'll probably be fine.

Thanks for your replies. This seems like a very nice mag just gotta test it out. I'll be sure to add a coat of oil to it here and there and see what happens.

Had some. The metal was very soft. The feed lips bent out and caused constant reliability problems. I would bend them back and they would be out of shape in 60 to 80 rounds. No good. Very bad.
Smashed them with a hammer because they were junk. Good luck with yours. |

Beware of anything Pro-Mag makes, they haven't got the greatest reputation in reliability.
