Just got my first SIG SAUER!!!

Hey guys! Just got back with my very first Sig, and I must say im pretty excited to shoot this rig! I have owned glocks, smiths, hks, etc, but i ALWAYS wanted to get my hands on a Sig... Well anyway i was in the Cabela's by my home and I came across this P229 DAK in 40 S&W in the Gun Library. Now i have never bought a used firearm before so i was a bit nervous, but the firearm looked to be in great condition with zero handling marks... I researched on this forum before and checked out Florks page on getting a new sig, so I kept that in mind while looking at it. I attached some pics.Thanks for the info and wisdom guys, ill give you a range report hopefull this weekend!.....Quick question, if you look a the pic on my slide, there is a little space on the edge where the finish is worn of, it feels totally smooth to the touch, is this normal? Thanks again!

I don't see anything to be concerned about.
Can you feel a bump or dent at the 'smily' wear spot on the end of the barrel?

I'm hoping to get the 9mm P229 soon. I might get a used one too. I've owned a few Sigs over the years, but never a P229. Always been happy with them. With Sig you can count on high reliability and very good accuracy. Had a P226 ST in .40, that was the most accurate .40 I've ever fired.

Yes it's quite normal. Look at some pics of P226's used by SEALS.

Yes it's normal. Actually, that gun looks like the previous owner maybe took it to the range to test fire it and then stuck it in the safe. I've seen new Sigs that didn't look that good.

Kongrats. I've owned a ton of Sigs and can assure you it's one of the best weapons available.

I just bought my first Sig too! I got a nice little 22lr Mosquito. Its my first Sig also and I found the quality to be superb. One of the nicest machined 22lr SA I have ever seen. And I did ALOT of research before my purchase. Side by side comparisons. I know the little "skeeter" has its issues...but I love it and it fits so perfect in my small hands. I have read good and bad about most of the 22lr pistols (not pocket pistols....but those of 80-90% sized..) I figure that unless its a derringer...I am not going to shoot a gun with less than a 3 inch barrel.

You guys go right ahead. I'll drive you all to the hospital.

Beautiful example. Shows very like wear. Just keep a little grease on the rails and you should be all set. I'm sure it will give you many years of service. Now the hard part, try to own just one.

I am bitten and smitten and everything in between. I let two of my man neighbors talk me into shooting my Browning for the first time. I blame them for creating the monster. My collection keeps growing. I'm keeping me and the cat fed...but I have an awesome gun collection and want list. Most women shop for clothes or shoes. Not me....I go straight for the gun counter. My boyfriend has a great big pair just to be with me. LOL

I've got a couple Sigs, too, and am new to shooting. Yours appears to be in great shape.

Quick question: If you have a dent or indention on the "smile" on the barrel is that bad?

No not bad....normal. Sigs show quite a few wear marks here and there as they break in. I love it....it gives them character that most guns do not have in my opinion

I put a mono layer of goose grease right there, and then work the slide until I feel the grease go in. I'm not saying I won't get a wear mark, but it might slow it down.

I have noticed that Sigs show more wear than other guns with the same amount of range time. Does anyone know why this is?

Sig's look like they age faster because of the paint/coating they use wears off faster.

My p938(400+ now) and old p238(200 rounds) both looked well used, my Glock 19 still looks new on the barrel after 800 rounds, the slide has some holster marks.

Sig uses a glassy finish so it scratches easy, Glock has a tougher finish.

Sigs are really a sickness, first it's just one... Well #6 found it's way home a while back. lol. Now, I just recently upgraded my P220 to a P220 SSS. That's a full stainless model. What a pleasure that is to shoot

. Never wish to get rid of any of my Sigs, but a P210 seems to be calling me. Hard decision to make. I know you will enjoy yours.

Totally jealous. Those P229s are awesome; they are, hands down, my favorite Sigs. Now go follow thedudabides' advice and get yourself a 357 barrel!

Nitron wears off super fast. I think they did a better job in the 80s/90s.

My 5 year old P220 looks as trashed as a 15 year old one.

Agreed. I don't know what SIG has done to their finish. My old P220 looks great. But my P226 with 3,000 rounds through it. Looks great too though. And it's 2010. But wasn't carried that much. I notice the different finishes and notice tr damage on other people's guns.

Congrats on your first Sig!

I started with a P220 .45ACP about 18 years ago. Then a P226 .40. The one I'm shooting most often now is a P229 9mm. I also have the .22LR conversion for it, which is a ton of fun to swap out on the range with friends. I've also got a Mosquito .22LR but I like shooting the P229 better in that caliber.

I'm always on the lookout for my NEXT new Sig!

Just ignore the random Beretta PX4 in this pic.
