new revolver question

Hi all,

I have a question about the appearance of "turn rings" on the cylinders of new revolvers. I see these even on guns still in the case at my LGS. Is this indicative of a problem with the gun? Should this mean I should not purchase a new gun that has a ring?

When the cylinder turns, rings to some degree are inevidable.

the ring or scratch is caused by the locking prawl dragging across the cylinder every time the revolver's hammer is cocked or the cylinder is spun.

The slight mark left by factory test and proof firing is usually not visible. If there is a visible drag line, it probably means the gun shop or its customers handled (not necessarily fired) the gun at some point. Does it make any real difference? Not a bit; the gun is still new, with a new gun warranty.

Some folks are anal about buying only new, untouched guns; one even said he would not accept a gun that had been proof fired, as if he could get such a gun.

Most of us live in the real world. Last spring I bought a new car; it had 12 miles on the odometer, so it wasn't "new", but I didn't demand one with 0 mileage.
