The guys at your LGS are pretty poorly informed about the facts and reality of the political process.
Let's get one thing out in the open: I know of no gun shop that performs a civics test when interviewing employees. These guys aren't nearly as informed on the issues as we are, and you're lucky to find one who has really credible information on the products they sell. Judging from what I've heard at gun shop counters, I'd encourage anyone to take what's said with a grain of salt.

drugs are illegal, but they're everywhere, aren't they? I don't understand how people think it'll be different with guns. Gun control only works on people that follow the law.
