Identify this?

Can anyone identify what the heck this is...a friend of mine (accidently?) discharged and apparently there weren't any new holes in the wall.

It's a starter gun of some sort. The cases in the first picture appear to only be blanks.
Gun Control-gun con·trol n. definition 1. The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker received that fatal bullet wound. 2. The ability to hit what you are aiming at.

I think it was a 'flare gun'...

The blanks were used to propel a small cylinder that fit in the 'flared' part of the barrel...

Seem to remember these from the backs of magazines as a kid in the 60's...

"The world's smallest working double action revolver", a 2mm pinfire. It came originally with bullets & blanks for launching flares.

Made for concealed carry by pacifists who don't want to hurt anybody.
