Mauser c96 "broom-handle" info needed
Gentlemen:
Guru1911 needs to assistance to research a barrel for a mauser c-96 "broom-handle" pistol. Research i have completed, indicates this barrel is a "modell 1930" series, early model "step-barrel". Serial #829682 & chambered for 9mm parabellum. Everything checks out as the real deal, except for one thing---the barrel length !!!!! From muzzle to the "step" it measures 8.75" & 14.50" from muzzle to the front of the cocking piece. Way too long for this series of pistols according to websites i investigated. Sorry, but i have no photos for you to look at. Guru1911

Sounds like one of the Fed Ord dressups of Chinese surplus.
They put on some odd length barrels and a lot of 9mm conversions for common ammo. From what I could find, an original 9mm 1930 would be very scarce. |

Do you have any way to get pictures online?
The 'Red nine' C-96s were more common to have longer barrels on them. Which is what you sound like you're describing. Any other markings on it?

The serial number puts it straight in the middle of the China contract. The question is, did it start out as 9 mm or was later opened up to fix a bad 7.63 barrel.

I agree with Jim.
Over the past 20 or so years I've seen a lot of weirdness out of the Federal Ordnance C-96s.
