Selling ammunition

I have tried to do a few internet searches on this, but my only real internet connection is at work. I can catch a couple of breaks, but not enough time to read all the information attempting to answer my question. I have decided to take the lazy approach and ask for help here.

My situation:

I have three boxes of ammunition I cannot use. I would like either sell it, or exchange it for ammunition I can use.

I am in North Carolina.

Is it illegal for an individual to sell ammunition without any type of license?

Would it be illegal or unethical to ask my local gun shop if they would exchange this ammunition for some in a caliber I can use.

It is not illegal to resell ammunition in NC in a private party sale. I doubt you will find any business willing to exchange it for other ammo unless it is antique collectable ammo.

What kind of ammo is it?

This topic got me thinking. There are lots of people that have hoarded more ammo than they could ever use, than all of their relatives and friends could ever use. Ammo is hard for individuals to sell over the internet, and it's not the kind of thing a gun shop would want to buy from private people for liability reasons.

Some day there is going to be so much ammo out there from about a 5-7 year period of mass hoarding that folks won't be able to give it away. Garage sales and gun shows, that's where I'd try to sell it, I guess.

You would think that but I think not. For example on my local gun trader forum there is a dude that constantly cuts me out of .30-06. He buys it as soon as it lists.

The 7.62 is cheap and widely available. The other stuff not so cheap. None are antique or collectable. You might get a tank of gas out of it so you have to wonder if it is worth the trouble.

I was thinking the same thing. I just hate to see ammo go to waste. I know that I won't get much for it. I was hoping maybe enough for one box of what I do shoot. That ammo runs about $30 a box.
