Star Firearms Ultra Star pistol 9mm
I was up at my local gun shop, and he had one of these in the used gun case part of his shop. I started looking at it, and learned a little about them from him (he has limited info on them). I did some research on this gun online, and found out more about them. They no longer make them, but design wise it's pretty much a single stock 9 shot poly 9mm with the basic operating system of the CZ, and similar designs. This one was imported by Interarms out of Alexandria Virginia. Condition of the gun is about 90% I would have to say. I've enclosed a couple pics of the gun...
He let me take it home, and test fire it. I ran 45 rounds of FMJ WWB, and 27 rounds of JHP Remington with no problems. Very controllable, and easy to shoot. Should I trade my Taurus TCP for this gun? .380 is expense to shoot, and I'm trying to get my collection to only 9mm, and .45ACP. Plus I think this gun has some "historic" value (to me personally). Thoughts? Last edited by phatspeed7x; September 25, 2011 at 04:47 PM. |

With the caveats that 1)magazines are pricey, and 2)given Star is no longer in business, parts can be iffy.

Iv had an Ultrastar for over a year now and i love it, love Stars in general, good pistols IMHO. Holsters are kind of hard to find spare mags are a bit pricey but are out there if you just look. As for parts well they are not being made any more, but there are still some part for them still out there. Also some springs can be used from other pistols, such as the mag springs from the H&K P7M8. You can also measure the dimensions of any spring on them, and then send those dimensions to Wolf Spring, and they will match it as close as possible to springs they make for other pistols. Many other small parts on them could be made by any competent gunsmith with the proper tooling. But these pistols are very well made and strong, so breakage of parts is not the biggest concern with them for me. I will say this of my experience with the Ultrastar, if you get one you will not be disappointed. Still looking for a well priced .40 S&W model for my self, to go along with my 9mm.

I had one years ago and it never missed a beat.
It was sort of, somehow, dull though. didnt do much for me. It was a gift from interarms to replace some other gun of theirs cracked in the frame. If you can get it on the cheap go for it, its a good little have-around-gun, maybe keep near the sofa or stashed in easy reach somewhere around the house. Its definitely not a excellent range companion or a great ccw, but from there on its versitile and worth having around. |

I got my Taurus at the gun shop on consignment. Think I'll stop in tomorrow, and tell him I'll trade. I shot it some more and really like the way it shoots. And since it's not being made anymore it kinda adds to my collection.

I would trade a Taurus for a Star Ultrastar. I have the 9mm and I just found a .40 at a gun show. Both have nice triggers but I would like to have a small grip extension on the magazine. Despite the grip I can still shoot the 9mm well but I haven't had a chance to shoot my .40.
Magazines can be found for the 9mm if you keep making an effort to look for them. I found some new ones on line, a few in odds and ends mag bins, and at gun shows. The .40 though is a lot harder to find but I did find that one as well. If you like Star pistols keep an eye out for their 30M or 31P. Those are probably the best pistols they made and share similarities with the Ultrastar. The .45 Megastar is also built like a tank. |

Enjoy the Star for as long as you do. You can always pickup another pocket .380 when you feel the need.

I got a day off tomorrow. I'll shoot the gun some more and test accuracy. Should shoot pretty decent groups I would think.

Every time I see a photo of a Star pistol in this forum, I have mixed feelings. Sorrow, for the Spanish firearms industry no longer exists, pride when I see there's still people who appreciates these weapons.
I would say... get it!. I haven't ever shot an Ultra Star, but had a Star BM and 30M as my service pistols for more than 15 years (now I carry a Beretta 92FS) and felt quite comfortable trusting my life to them. Get it, and you'll get a fine pistol and a part of my country's history in your gun locker. I am myself struggling to find a 30M in good shape for the same reasons. |

I was busy with other things today, and didn't get a chance to shoot it more today. But I did field strip it, and gave it a good cleaning. I also did some shopping online for an extra magazine. Cheapest in stock I could find was $43.00 My local gun shop said if he came across a extra mag for it he would just give it to me. I'll have to check back later this week and see what he found.

Well, my friend, I'll tell you that I paid 40€ for an extra magazine for my 92FS, and pretty much the same for another one for my PX4F. I think that only Glock magazines are really cheap, most of other brands aren't.
Those 40 bucks for a Star magazine don't seem that pricey to me, or, in other words, it is expensive, as most of them are. |

Stars ROCK!
Get extra parts while you can, springs & extractors...better to get them now.
