Replacement stock doesnt fit

Gun is a single shot 20 ga. Stevens Mod. 94. Son's first gun 30 years ago.
Stock was broken beyond repair - ordered replacement from Stocks Inc. but it doesn't fit very well. Have tried filing, rasping, sanding but I am not very good at it.
Is there some material I could use to fill in the gaps.
Possibly coat the stock with whatever then press it into the action of the gun and get a good fit that way.
Just looking for any suggestions.
Doesn't need to be perfect, just shootable and safe.
Grandson is 11 and wants to start shooting, thought his dad's first gun would be a good one to start with.

You could use a bedding compound for the gaps but be sure to use plenty on release or you will never get the stock off the receiver.
