Gun cleaing kit

So I havent bought a cleaning kit in about 15 or so years and my stuff is just wore out. Is there a better cleaning kit out there besides otis?

Seems like parts is parts for cleaning "kits". I still have my Otis from about the same period as yours, I just keep replacing the stuff I need as I go. The boresnake is pretty handy, and I love the one piece Dewey rods for cleaning rifles.

Dude if you haven't tried this stuff, you should.

1 part Acetone
1 part aliphatic mineral spirits (very expensive paint thinner, $30 gallon)
1 part Automatic Transmission Fluid
1 part kerosene
1/2 part lanolin (optional)

brushes and the like have not changed much though i do agree that the bore snakes are great. The combination listed above makes for great cleaning and leaves a light oil coating from both the kerosene and the ATF. Many may post after this that it sucks at getting out copper, they technically correct, get some ammonia and run a brush from breech to muzzle a couple times let stand for a minute and then run your Ed's Red soaked bore snake. During this time your bolt or like assembly should be soaking in the ER. The light oil coating in most controlled environments negates the need for an oil patch for short term storage. I have been using it on my ARs and it works great. It is also super cheap if you make five gallons at a time, of course five gallons is a life time supply. It is extremely flammable so; no smoking or open flames.

Yes use straight ammonia and yes its better than Hoppees #9

Buy some new brushes and you'll be good for another 15 years or more.

Get a set of good brushes and swabs. Then you need some Remington oil and gun scrubber. That should get you by.
