building a suppressor

I know, there are many quality affordable ones out there.

That being said, are there any plans that produce decent suppressors for 22lr, 9mm, 45acp and maybe even some rifle round (223, 7.63x39, 5.45x39)?

I don't know if I will have access to a lathe when I move, but it is a possibility.

I am not looking for those cheesy duct tape/pvc/sink washer jobs either.

Why you ask? I will have three month periods where I will have plenty of time to do extra curricular activities...

Disclaimer: I know the process for acquiring the tax stamp to make my own....

Look here, lot's of friendly people and an archive of other peoples successes and failures. Lots of good discussions on theory and design, but you'll have to do some homework. I designed my first form 1 suppressor just on what I learned here. You have to register, but it's free.

Will need 6 months. Once you move and fill out the application you will need 3 months just to get the approval to start building. So you should have gotten the paperwork out of the way before your 3 months of planned down time.

That being said ar15.com also has a section on build your own with lots of photos.

I learned how to operate a lathe while making my first silencer. I just used cone shaped or K shaped baffles of the type shown on various websites. the silencertalk forum was the most useful place I have looked at. I have posted several drawings of baffles and silencers there.

I recommend going the trust route instead of personally owning it, you can avoid the sheriff's signature and the fingerprint cards then.

Here is some of what I made.

I was researching the individual baffles vs the Monolithic and I think mono is going to be the way to go for me.

This project is going to be my learning platform for a lathe as long as I have access to one.

If all goes well, i might get a little out of control...

Nothing wrong with that. I plan on suppressing every gun in my +45 plus collection except for the revolvers (will suppress the nagant 1895 though), blackpowder and a few of the older military rifles. It will take about ten years, but it is easily doable.
