Military surplus ? P6,P7 etc.
I have a couple of P6's and am interested in the HKP7. Are there other P designated surplus pistols? i.e.P4,P8 Why were these pistols designated with the P? Just curious. A link or information is appreciated. And yes, I used the search function prior to posting.

Expect to pay a lot for the P7, but they are awesome bits of gun history!
Here's the list of German Police pistols. P1 = Walther P38 P2 = Sig P210-4 P3 = Astra 600 P4 = Short-barreled Walther P38 P5 = Walther P5 P6 = Sig P225 P7 = Heckler & Koch P7 P8 = Heckler & Koch USP P9 = Heckler & Koch P9 P10 = Heckler & Koch USP Compact P designation = Police

Quote:
the p9 is the walther p99 and the p4 is the walther p4 to say that the walther p4 is a short barreled p38 is an oversimplification.

In German:
P = Pistole --> pistol and not "police" also: MP = Maschinenpistole --> submachinegun G = Gewehr --> rifle MG = Maschinengewehr --> machinegun before 1945, in Germany, service weapons were usually designated with the last two digits from the year of introduction service: P38 = Pistole introduced in 1938 MP40 = Maschinenpistole introduced in 1940 etc. etc. MG42, G41 After the Second World War they designated the weapons starting with 1: for example P1 (=P38), P2 (=SIG P210), MP2 (=Uzi), G1 (=FAL), G3 (=CETME). |
