Leupold??? V-X VS Vari-X??

I am wondering what the difference is between Vari-X and VX Leupold Riflescopes?
As of today I am the proud owner of my third Leupold, All of them are Vari-X, black gloss finish, no AO, Two are Vari-X II's (3-9x and 2-7x), one is a Vari-X III (3.5-10x)
Is it just me or are the Vari-x's commanding higher premiums over the VX's, as far as I can figger the VX is the new version, not offered in black gloss finish, I think. . .
I am pretty new to the Leupold Family, as I bought my first one less than 8 months ago, and it has multiplied to three quite rapidly

What's the difference? Is there one?

IIRC the leupold variable scope lineup was called vari X until a few years ago, then they switched over to the VX series...

Just relabeling an already fine product...that's all...

They are the same scope, they just abbreviated the name and the rollmark. Vari-X was the name given to Leupold variable scopes back in the 1960s, so it was about due for a change.

The newer VX scopes have better lens coatings than the older Vari-X line-up, and the VX-II 3-9x is now equivalent to the older Vari-X III 3-9x. The new VX-II 3-9 is a very good scope. I have one of the new ones and an older Vari-X II 3-9. The VX is a better scope. The new VX has click adjustments where as the older one had friction adjustments.
You can get the latest Leupold catalog and read about it, or the Leupold web site may have some info on the changes that took place when they went from the Vari-X line to the VX line.
