175 grain 308 loads
Ok, out of the 3 reloading books I own none of them have data for a Sierra 175 grain bthp. I have Speer, Lyman and Nosler. What gives? This is the second Sierra bullet not in their manual.
I am all for experimentation, but I am also new to reloading so I am hesitant to jump right in. I figured I could start with Speer's 180 grain bthp data and watch for pressure signs. I have IMR 4064, 4895 and W760 in house. Any recommendations? |

with IMR 4064, i would start at 40 grs.
IMR 4895 works fine too, i believe i used 40 - 41.5 grs. it probably wasn't in any reloading manuals because it is not a relatively common bullet and it is only used for competition. |

175 SMK's
Sierra lists the cartridge as:
2.800" OAL Below, ignore all the /// marks (I couldn't get the columns to format without them). First row of numbers is Muzzle Velocity (in fps), second row of numbers (4064 charge weight), third row, (4895 charge weight at corresponding fps) for IMR 4064, 2200 /// 2300 // / 2400 // / 2500 /// 2600 35.9gr / 38.0gr / 40.1gr / 42.2gr / 44.4 gr (maximum) for IMR 4895 37.0gr / 38.5gr / 40.0gr / 41.5gr (maximum) Sierra book lists accuracy load as IMR 4064/42.2gr: 2500fps/2498 ftlbs I have found that IMR4064/42.5/ LC 93/Fed210M yields 2570fps @ .4MOA out of a Remington 700 BDL IMR4064/43.5/LC 93/Fed210M yields 2650fps @.75MOA out of M1A If you use milsurp brass reduce maximum powder charge listing by ~10%. |

MLC, I called Sierra with the same question.I was told by one of their reps to use the 180 gr. bullet load data in their manual. I'm shooting them moly coated using 44.5 grs. of H-BLC2 with a Fed 215 magnum primer in Federal Match cases, seated to 2.815".This was giving me 2632 fps out of a Rem700 PSS.HTH.Skullboy.
