I don't know if they still do it now, but Colt used to sell civilian AR-15 variants (Colt 'Sporter' rifles, etc) with 5-round magazines using 20 round bodies and rivited floorplates. This was meant to give the Sporter rifles a 'sporter' aspect (ie: hunting). It was probably more of a PC thing than anything. I have a few that came with my rifles. They're actually nice to have for load testing off a bench because 30 rounds are too long for that kind of shooting.
