a .45 shouldn't be too much for you. im a string bean at 5'10" 135lbs and size small hands and .45 is my favorite caliber to shoot...well maybe besides .22lr because of the price

as far as recoil between 9mm and .45 the later has more recoil...but its a different feeling, the 9 feels a little more like a sharp crack where the .45 is more of a heavy thud or push
