Whether you are old fashioned or the hippest guy in the 'hood, carrying a pistol with an active trigger without enclosing the trigger guard is a bad idea. I agree with you: a good holster is one solution; a thumb safety is another. Both solutions are legitimate. If you chose a thumb safety, changing brands or having a well-engineered safety properly installed are also both legitimate options.
