Just purchased super magnum 870, and I'd like to make sure it is as handy as possible for home defense. Bought this due to recommendations from friends re: dependability, versatility, etc. I gather the first modification should be barrel length. I thought that would be an easy change, but I understand I must choose rifled or smooth bore, bead or rifle sights and so on. I plan to fill it with 2 rounds of shot (00?), and the rest slugs, ala recommendations from officers I know. Your advice is appreciated. Happy holidays.
