Some gyms aren't so small that you can constantly look around and see your bag. And, if it's anchored (locked) to a bench, it isn't convenient to constantly move it. AND, it looks like you have something VERY valuable in the bag, which makes you more vulnerable to a thief.
I would just use a fanny pack holster and be done with it.
