What you probably were experiencing was a Lem trigger that had been decocked.

When you decock a LEM trigger (dry fire without cycling the slide), you get a pretty insanely heavy trigger pull. This is the true DA pull that is actually compressing the hammer spring.

If you pre-cock it, as it would be when live firing, you would get a much less objectionable DA-ish pull.
