That's some scary stuff. Enough to make me wanna have a talk with the girlfriend about her potentially getting her CCW permit and starting to carry. We've entertained the idea before, but never seriously discussed it. She seems to rely more on my being armed, but we don't live under the same roof, nor even spend most days together. I have been teaching her to shoot, she likes shooting (just the smaller caliber weapons), and she's pretty good at it too.
