The rear base on a Vanguard is taller than the front base as the rear of the receiver is not as high as the front. Same thing as a Remington 700 and in fact the (two piece) bases are interchangeable between the two brands. (Weatherby Vanguard and Remington 700) The front and rear base cannot be interchanged as they have different hole spacing. If you are still not happy with the rifle by all means take it back. I am sure they can sort it out for you.
