but have you tried compressed air? I've never tried to skin a beaver, but have found that using an air gun attachment on a compressor can do a real quick job of separating hide from meat on many critters. Just poke a hole somewhere that you are going to make a cut anyway, and slip the air gun nozzle in, hold the area around it real tight to try to seal it off, and blow some air in. Don't have a clue whether it will work for beaver or not, but you could try it if you have a compressor handy.
