How familiar with a peep is the OP?

I sometimes see shooters "bottoming" the front sight base on the outline of the aperture, essentially using the bottom portion of the aperture like a sight leaf, thus lofting the front sight way to high.

Focus on the front post, allow the eye to center it naturally in your field of view, disregard the rear aperture, look through it, not at it.
