I'm new to this site but without knowing a lot details about that Garand, it's not possible to say if it's a good deal or not. Who made the receiver? What barrel is on it? Is it a GI or a replacement stock? What are the throat erosion and muzzle wear measurements? All of that and more would factor into the value of that M1.

Chris in VA has an excellent suggestion. Get the funds together and purchase through the CMP. I did that recently and it was really easy. By more importantly, you can get a rifle that's been gone over by a qualified armorer and is priced really reasonably. You can even go to the CMP stores in OH or AL to pick a rifle out in person. I did that and it was truly worth it.
