I had the same problem - everything looked perfect but the alignment of the holes was off just a touch. I got a drill bit the exact size on the hole, tapered it slightly for about 1/4 in. at one end, lined the holes up as best I could and inserted the tapered end of the bit. When I felt resistance only a tap of a small plastic hammer was necessary for perfect alignment. As already mentioned the process gets easier and easier.
