A lot depends on the size of the hogs, and it is always better to have more power than you need.

Bbl length should get as much attention as caliber. A 6" or longer bbl in either caliber would make a decent hunting gun (longer bbl usually = more velocity and better accuracy), but is a more awkward to carry, much less conceal. For "back-up" only a 3" or 4" gun is much easier to carry or conceal.

Here in FL they just changed the laws to allow CCW holders to carry concealed handguns on WMA's even during archery and muzzleloading seasons.
