How do I fix this S&W 66

Just bought an unfired, but beat to death model 66 Smith & Wesson that was a guard gun at a recently closed nuclear reactor near here. This thing has a gouge plowed into the recoil sheild from having been loaded and unloaded so many times, as I guess it was passed between guards every 8 hours. This groove is deep enough to cause the cylinder pin to hang up, requiring a slight bump to open the cylinder. The hole where the cylinder pin locks up is worn slightly to the left side, and its hanging up there. What, short of welding up this groove can be done?
Thanks
Andy
