I don't think you have to disassemble the gun to slug the bore and try a few headspacing guages .... Either your gunsmith does not know his business, or was more likely blowing you off ....

Ask how much it would cost to make a chamber cast...... or DIY it. It is not hard. 1/2 lb of cerrosafe is $20-$25 bucks......
