Smith & Wesson's website shows a 7 shot 3" 686 as a current model. Take my word for it: you cannot find a tougher gun than a 686. It is not going to "shoot loose" with even a steady diet of magnum rounds. It's heft will soak up the recoil. I know, there are Ruger afficianados lurking on this forum who will swear that their GP100s are stronger guns. But, in fact, there's never been a study published anywhere supporting that assertion.
