The 45-70 is pretty solid, but you have more choices: Bolt? Semi?
A .30-06 or .300WM can drop virtually anything on the North American continent with a reasonably decent shot. But if you want to go shoot large bears, you may want something that's higher power.
How about a budget? That will help narrow suggestions quite a bit.
