You're preaching to the choir, in my case.
My American in .308 Winchester had a problem with the scope bases being out of whack, but I dealt with that problem and have been very happy with the gun's accuracy.
One humorous note here is that the Ruger American was bought to serve as a backup for my beautiful, pricey Browning BLR - but the Ruger's groups are about half the size of the Browning's.
A lot of shooters are running across this problem with the American Vs their old favorite rifle, from what I understand...
Sure, it's kinda ugly and has to be oiled constantly so that it won't rust ( especially the outside finish on the barrel ) - but the accuracy is phenomenal.
