In the past years I've found lots of Ruger (particularly single actions) that had machining marks in the cylinders.
Yea, I've used a split dowell with very fine emery paper to smooth up the cylinders. Not very much but just enough not to change dimensions but just to smooth things up - and it worked really well. I stayed away from the chamber mouths and left them alone but I don't feel it hurts to polish the chamber area. I used my drill press.
