I just re-read your post and realized that you are going to use the 308 for target. When I saw the Rem gun in 308 I automatically assumed hunting. You should look for a higher power scope if you want to shoot out to 300 yds. That was precisely why I got the 6x24 to begin with. BUT - the higher power in the 4200 line would probably be above your budget price. Take a look at the 3200 in the higher powers - they might fit in to your price.

The only word of general advice I would give is not to go cheap on the glass. You can have a beautifully accurate rifle, but you may never appreciate it's accuracy with a cheap scope on it.
