According to my Lyman manual, its not. The .30-30 has a 2-300ft/lb advantage over the .44 Mag, in carbines. The .44 Mag is close, but NOT "more powerful". in terms of calculated energy.

All else being equal (and it almost never is) bigger bullets tend to work better.
