One idea, and IMO good for a beginner, is to disable the auto-index and turn the turret manually. I believe the plastic ratchet is a "sacrifical" part which will break before any major damage is done to the press (short stroking messes up the ratchet every time). Once you learn to reload/use the press you might not need to "automatic" anything...
