In my days as a correctional officer, they would issue us S&W service revolvers in .38 Special. They were horrible to shoot in my opinion since they had stock grips. I had to qualify every year and I qualified well every but I would not buy one for personal use, unless I intended to change the grips.
We also had to qualify with Mini 14's and 12 gauge shotguns if we worked in the towers. I still like the Mini 14 to this day.
